Ensuring you have quality installation of your office data

16 October 2023

Most offices these days need a data fit out. Our team comes equipped with plenty of experience with data techs that understand the workings of data and how it needs to be installed. In this blog we will outline some steps you can take to ensure you are getting quality installation of your data.

Master cabling

When installing data it is required that you hold a master cabling license. This process includes undergoing 360 hours of training supervised by a qualified cabler, using the ACRS website you can find out who is registered. Our managing director Tristan Higgs is a certified master cabler meaning he and any one in our team under his supervision are qualified to install data, therefore your installation will be adhering to industry standards and done correctly

Types of data

When installing data there are generally 2 common choices, cat6 and cat6a:

  • Cat6 cables can support data transfer speeds of up to 1 Gbps over a distance of 100 meters. They have a bandwidth of 250 MHz. Cat6 cables are suitable for most general networking applications where 1 Gbps speeds are sufficient. They are commonly used in homes, small businesses, and some larger office spaces
  • Cat6a cables are an enhanced version of Cat6. They can support data transfer speeds of up to 10 Gbps over a distance of 100 meters. They have a significantly higher bandwidth of 500 MHz. Cat6a cables are designed for high-performance environments, especially where 10 Gbps or greater speeds are required. They are often used in data centres and larger corporate networks

Quality install

  • The use of cable management such as cable trays not only keep a neat and tidy appearance but also are a perfect way to keep your data cables organized, meaning they are easily accessible for any troubleshoot needed in the future

  • Catenary cable is essential to keep the data cables separated from other services.

  • As per industry standards data cables have to tied up with velcro rather than cable ties

Testing- Quality assurance

Testing data cables after installation is a standard practice that verifies your cables meet the required regulations and check that everything has been installed correctly.

By following these steps and investing in quality data installation, you can significantly reduce the likelihood of any issues appearing, ensuring that your office data runs smoothly!
